Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Rafael van der Vaart speaks against manager Harry Redknapp’s decisions
Rafael van der Vaart, the Tottenham Hotspur playmaker, revealed he was unhappy with some of the decisions manager Harry Redknapp had made recently. The 28-year-old did not think the Spurs boss had the right to speak about his recent injury and did not agree
with his positioning against Arsenal in the north London derby at White Hart Lane on Sunday.
The http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Netherlands-c753 international is certain he is more effective in a central role, rather than on either of the flank. Despite that, Van der Vaart has been made to play as a winger by Redknapp, which has irritated the former Real Madrid man. He admitted his
performance was affected when he had to perform defensive duties and could not focus on what came naturally to him; scoring goals.
Van der Vaart said while speaking to reporters:
“I have definitely had a series of irritations. You want to play in the position where you do best.
But if I have to chase after an attacking full-back every time, I can't play my own game to my best ability.”
He continued:
“Sunday was not the first time I have played out wide and I was given the freedom to move infield. But you could see from the goal I scored that my strength lies in the centre of midfield.”
Van der Vaart revealed his effectiveness had been proven by his goal against the Gunners on Sunday, which put the home side in front early on. Apart from being made to play in a position that did not bring out the best in him, the Dutchman felt Redknapp
had not made the right choice by taking him off over the weekend because of his recent injury.
Van der Vaart said:
“In my opinion, he made a mistake in making his comments about my most recent injury.
He took me off because he didn't want to take any risks with me. I can understand that but I'm convinced I could have played for 90 minutes.”
While Van der Vaart picked up a hamstring injury earlier on in the season, he recovered sooner than expected, only to discover that he had been left out of the UEFA Europa League squad list submitted by the Spurs. He was understandably upset and revealed
that while he could understand Redknapp’s concern over his fitness, he felt he could have continued for the full 90 minutes against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429.
