Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Tom Huddlestone claims victory over Chelsea is crucial
Tottenham Hotspur midfielder, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Tom-Huddlestone-c35227, has stated that collecting maximum points in their next English Premier League fixture is crucial for his side.
Spurs are up against reigning Premier League championship Chelsea and need a win to strengthen their hopes of qualifying for the UEFA Champions League next season.
At present, the Lilywhites’ chances of qualifying for Europe’s Premier competition are hanging by a thread as Manchester City hold a four-point advantage over them with just five games remaining for both sides in the ongoing 2010/11 season.
Huddlestone admits the odds are against his side to finish the season ahead of the Citizens but the midfielder has urged his side to fight for the fourth spot in the EPL table until the end of the season.
He said, "If we lose to Chelsea and City win their next two games it will be virtually impossible (to finish fourth). We have still got games to play though so as long as it's possible then we won't give up."
Tottenham had a fantastic debut season in the Champions League as they were able to reach the last eight of the competition. On their road to the quarter-final stage, Spurs collected emphatic victories over the likes of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Inter-c39567 Milan, AC Milan, Werder Bremen
and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Twente-c39233.
Success in the Champions League has certainly increased their appetite to dine at Europe’s top table again and Harry Redknapp’s troop will be looking to do everything possible to achieve that feat.
Huddlestone added, “Once you have had a taste of the Champions League, you want more. Maybe we're getting a bit greedy but we have shown that we can compete with the best in the competition, so to not be in it next year would be very disappointing."
With all being said, Tottenham certainly lack momentum as they have collected just one win in their last seven EPL fixtures. Furthermore, the Lilywhites were restricted to a 2-2 draw in their last EPL match against West Bromwich Albion.
A trip to Stamford Bridge is going to be difficult for the Spurs, as in-form http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 are making a late charge to retain their Premier League crown. The two sides are set to lock horns on April 30, 2011.
