Tottenham Hotspur news: Gareth Bale not for sale
Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy has reassured the fans that Gareth Bale will not be sold at any cost.
Bale has been the centre of speculation regarding his transfer away from White Hart Lane.
The Welshman rose to stardom after his heroic performances against FC Internazionale in back-to-back group stage ties in the UEFA Champions League.
In San Siro, the 21-year-old hit a brilliant hat trick once again before ripping Inter to shreds in the return fixture in North London. Spurs defeated the European Champions 3-1 in a home match where Bale was simply unstoppable
on the left flank.
After his exploitations in the Champions League, big clubs from all over Europe had shown interest in signing the winger. Spanish giants Real Madrid and English side Manchester United were also reported to have lined up a lucrative
offer to lure the player away from White Hart Lane.
However, the club’s chairman has put all such rumours to bed by stating that any bids for the former Southampton FC player will not be entertained.
In the past, Tottenham have let their star players go to other clubs in search for silverware; Michael Carrick and Dimitar Berbatov, both headed to Manchester United in 2006 and 2008 respectively.
However, it might not be the case in Gareth’s situation as Spurs are in contention for the English Premier League crown and have also qualified for UEFA Champions League knockout round, this season.
Daniel said, “In the case of Gareth, he's got a long-term contract, and I can assure you that he will not be sold. To be honest, I've never deemed us to be a selling club. If you look at the two big transfers which have taken
place since I've been chairman, they were actually for contractual reasons. Both Berbatov and Michael Carrick had two years left on their contracts. Both players wanted to go and that was the reason they were sold."
Levy also commented on the situation of manager Harry Redknapp, who could leave the club if the FA chooses to replace current England manager Fabio Capello.
He added, “Harry is on a long-term contract. If and when they contact us we will have to deal with it accordingly.”
Redknapp, who took the managerial post at the North London club in 2008, is credited as the man behind Spurs’ resurgence in English football.
