Tottenham Hotspur not ready to let http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Luka-Modric-c22857 leave for Chelsea, Harry Redknapp confirms
Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp revealed the club had no intention of letting midfielder Luka Modric leave for London rivals Chelsea. He confirmed that the 25-year-old would be featuring against Scottish side Hearts in the second leg of the UEFA
Europa League play-off after Modric did not play against Manchester United in the English Premier League.
While Redknapp had claimed that Modric’s head was not in the right place in addition to a minor injury, it was believed that Modric had refused to play. The midfielder is keen on a move to Stamford Bridge, but after the club’s constant refusal, decided to
go on a strike. This further increased speculation regarding his future, which Redknapp tried to address in his recent interview.
Redknapp insisted that he planned to include Modric in the squad that would host Hearts in mid-week. The player reportedly has minor ankle, groin and hamstring injuries but has been cleared to play, with Redknapp wanting the midfielder to feature against
the Scottish side. He revealed he wanted Modric to feature at least an hour for his side in the upcoming match.
Redknapp said while speaking to reporters:
“I don't know if he will be fit but if he is okay, I would be looking to give him an hour. If he is fit, he will play.”
If Modric does play in the Europa League for the Spurs then he will effectively be unable to feature for http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 in the UEFA Champions League. Only after the group stages of the European competition are through can Modric play for the Blues in the Champions
League, if his dream move goes through that is. This may be the reason why Redknapp is keen on fielding him in the second tier European competition.
Redknapp insisted he was not bothered with Modric playing in the Champions League, since his side were not in the European competition this season and because he expected the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Croatia-c2879 international to remain at White Hart Lane. He claimed Modric was an important
part of the squad and he was looking forward to his contributions in the new season.
He continued:
“I'm not bothered about anyone else. He is here, we love him, he is a great player and I need him back playing.”
The Tottenham Hotspur boss revealed that the club chairman, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Daniel-c9879 Levy, was not going to let Modric leave. He had more than made it clear previously, but has reminded the player and the Blues once again. Unless Levy agrees, it does not seem Modric can make
the move to Chelsea and will have to be satisfied with Europa League football for the rest of the season.
Redknapp said:
“The chairman made another statement last night that he is definitely not going.
