Niko Kranjcar, the 27-year-old Tottenham Hotspur playmaker, revealed he felt Luka Modric was being treated unfairly by the London club. The 25-year-old Croatian midfielder has been linked with London rivals Chelsea since the beginning of the summer transfer
window, but the Spurs are determined to retain his services.
Despite the player having handed in a transfer request, and the Blues having made two bids for the player, Tottenham Hotspur show no signs of letting Modric leave. Chelsea are expected to make a further improved bid for Modric before the deadline day of
the summer transfer window, in what will be their last attempt to sign the gifted midfielder.
Kranjcar, who is teammates with Modric in both club and country, revealed he was a close friend of the Chelsea target. He felt the criticism his fellow countryman had to endure over the past month was unfair and that Modric was entitle to want a move away
from White Hart Lane. He felt Modric had given his all for the club since he joined in 2008 and had the right to ask for a transfer.
Kranjcar said while speaking to reporters:
“It is his decision to make and something he has to go through with the club. No one deserves to judge him if he decides to go because he has given three fantastic years to the club.
I think as a friend you support them no matter what they decide to do. He has played every game with his heart and if he gets an opportunity or the club decide to sell him, everyone should support his decision. It is his decision not ours and it's not
up to us to convince him to stay or go.”
Modric missed the visit to Old Trafford in the English Premier League clash against Manchester United, which the Red Devils won 3-0. While Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp claimed the player had a slight injury and that his head was not in the right
place, it is believed that the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Croatia-c2879 international actually refused to play and is currently on a strike.
With the deadline day just days away, if Chelsea’s third bid is not accepted then Modric will have to remain at White Hart Lane. Kranjcar felt that even if Modric was unable to complete his dream move to Chelsea, it would not affect his performance for the
Spurs. He claimed the Croatian loved the game too much and wouldn’t let anything change that.
Kranjcar added:
“If the club don't sell him he will continue to play his football for the club as always because he loves the game.”
