Tottenham Hotspur playmaker Rafael van der Vaart revealed he was confident Chelsea target http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Croatia-c2879 midfielder has handed in a transfer request, claiming he wants to play Champions
League football with the Spurs’ London rivals.
However, Tottenham Hotspur chairman http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Daniel-c9879 Levy and manager Harry Redknapp are determined to retain the services of the versatile midfielder. Chelsea have so far made two bids for Modric, both of which have been rejected, but the Blues are expected to return
soon with a further improved bid of £30 million.
Van der Vaart, who joined the Premier League outfit from La Liga giants Real Madrid last season, revealed he was hoping Modric decided to stay at White Hart Lane. Even though the Croatian is not a goal-scoring midfielder, he has been in top form for the
Spurs over the past two seasons.
The 28-year-old attacking midfielder said he was aware Modric was currently not happy at Tottenham Hotspur, especially after the way Levy and Redknapp had dealt with the interest from Chelsea. However, Van der Vaart felt Modric could be happy with the Spurs
and have a successful season with them.
Van der Vaart said while speaking to reporters:
“I'm really happy that he's going to stay because he's an important player for us.
Almost every day we ask him to stay and say, 'Have a great season - then you can go!'”
He continued:
“The chairman always said he's going to stay, no questions about it.
I understand he was a little bit disappointed, but in a few weeks he's going to be happy again.”
Van der Vaart revealed the entire squad had urged Modric to stay, but so far the Croatian was not convinced. The Holland international is the second player this week who has advised Modric to remain at White Hart Lane.

The Croatian is yet to make a statement regarding the matter, it is rumoured he is currently waiting for the Spurs to reach an agreement with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786. With the transfer window set to close on August 31st, there is still plenty of time for a transfer
to go through.
The Blues remain hopeful over a transfer, but new Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas has other targets lined up in case the move doesn’t go through. It is believed that the £30 million bid Chelsea are expected to make will be their last and final bid, after
which they will move on to their other targets.
