Tottenham Hotspur should let Luke Modric go – English Premier League debate
Harry Redknapp’s Tottenham Hotspur have announced their arrival. The English Premier League is not about four top clubs anymore. Arsene Wenger has recently come out suggesting the same. Performances by the likes of Manchester City and by the Spurs only supplements
it further.
Amid all the excitement, anticipation, debates and rumours running in the grapevine, Tottenham Hotspur star http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Luka-Modric-c22857 has taken all the lime light. His performance was not exactly up to the potential that can be associated with him, but Chelsea are all
keen to sign Modric and solidify their midfield. Manchester United are playing a tug-of-war with the Blues on the midfielder.
Chelsea had come out with a bid £22 million for Modric but it was rhetorically snubbed by Redknapp. The Spurs boss blasted the bid and said that the player was not available for sale.
"If there has been a bid of £22 million, that is ridiculous. There are people being sold for £20 million who are not fit to lace Luka's boots," he said.
Manchester United are more than likely to come up with a higher bid and try to get Modric on to their side.
If we go by the statistics alone, Redknapp’s comments come by as a bit of a shocker. Even some of his teammates performed much better than he did. The statistics of West Ham’s Scott Parker are also much impressive than Luke Modric.
This season Modric has managed to score three goals during the English Premier League. He was involved in three assists and sixty-four key passes.
On the hander hand, his team mate, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rafael-c30339 Van der Vaart, scored thirteen goals, made eight assists and was involved in sixty-seven key passes – Van der Vaart played three less games than Modric did.
Scott Parker is on the wish list of Harry Redknapp. The West Ham http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Total-c40747 count of key passes that he made.
Parker also beat Modric in the Castrol Rankings. The rankings are an indication of a player’s positive impact on his team in terms of his ability to score goals.
Redknapp can use Van der Vaart in a Modric role if he is able to bring Scott Parker and Blackpool’s Charlie Adam (another likely transfer potential), who is also being pursued by http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 and Manchester United.
Chelsea are looking to increase their bid to £25 million for Modric. If that is the case then Manchester United will come up with something higher than that.
Modric, surprisingly enough, outshines the midfielders with the Red Devils in passing accuracy. He has the third best passing accuracy in the English Premier League. This aspect of his game does add value for him with the Spurs.
Recently, Redknapp called on Tottenham to show Modric that the player can fulfil his ambitions at the White Hart Lane. He looks to bolster his attack and keep Modric in his scheme of things.
"I think we have to show him our ambition, which we will do," Redknapp said.
Somehow, it is logical to let him go and chase his ambitions with another club. The exuberant price tagged with Modric can be used to get a better quality player at a much cheaper price.
With the money they make through Modric’s sale, Redknapp can buy two to three bigger profiled players. This will translate in to more goals and better assists to the strikers from the midfield.
So with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 and Manchester United set to pay the price to bring Modric onboard, Tottenham Hotspur should milk the cash cow and make better use of the funds by signing a more clinical midfielder.
