Tottenham Hotspur striker warns of Werder Bremen threat
Tottenham Hotspur striker Peter Crouch says that the Scottish Premier League side will be wary of the threat posed by German outfit Werder Bremen when the sides meet in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday 24 November.
Spurs are currently at the top of their qualifying group with seven points after beating European champions Inter Milan 3-1 at White Hart Lane, a game in which Crouch scored.
The London-based side will be looking for a win against a side they drew 2-2 with in Germany in September to ensure their progression to the last 16 stage of the competition, but Crouch claims that their opponents will provide a stern test.
According to Werder's official webiste, Crouch said: "Werder Bremen have some very good individual players with Marko Marin especially coming to mind. We really have to watch out for him. I know that they are not really doing well in the Bundesliga at the
moment but the Champions League is an entirely different competition where that doesn’t play any role.
“Every team wants to improve their game in the Champions League. Werder desperately need to win the game at White Hart Lane. Therefore I am certain that the match will be quite entertaining. Playing attacking football is exactly their style of play. They
can look forward to a fantastic atmosphere. The fans will give everything they have for us and I think the support of our fans in our own stadium is always something special.”
Werder are struggling this season as they are currently in 12th place in the Bundesliga, with just 15 points from 13 games, and they are sitting 19 points behind leaders Borussia Dortmund.
They are also at the bottom of their Champions League group, having claimed just two points from draws with Spurs and FC Twente.
