Tottenham Hotspur v Real Madrid – First half review: UEFA Champions League - Part 2
After being denied a sure shot penalty claim in the 4th minute against Real Madrid, Tottenham stepped up their offensive moves in the 6th minute as http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Sergio-Ramos-c33096
and then produced a wonderful cross into the Real Madrid penalty area. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Sami-Khedira-c32325’s tackle from behind.
The Croatian along with the home crowd appealed for a penalty but the referee did not submit to their pressure tactics, and Real Madrid embarked on a counter attack of their own after Ramos cleared the ball away. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Emmanuel-Adebayor-c12526 ushered his team forward
with a run out wide to the right wing for the men in white, but his loose ball control allowed http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Michael-Dawson-c25288 to sneak in with a well timed tackle as the Englishman nicked the ball away from the Togolese striker.
In the 13th minute, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Heurelho-Gomes-c16173’s goal. Luckily enough for the Brazilian goalkeeper,
Tottenham’s central defender Dawson was on hand to block the shot as the ball went out of play for a Real Madrid corner kick. Mesut Ozil stepped up to take the corner kick but the German midfielder’s delivery was rendered useless by Sergio Ramos’s tackle on
Heurelho Gomes. The referee spotted the infringement on Gomes by Ramos and duly awarded the free kick to Tottenham Hotspur.
Tottenham made good use of the free kick and knocked the ball up the field towards http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Aaron-Lennon-c3062 with a first time pass. Lennon had the awareness to pass it back to the Russian striker but Pavlyuchenko was fouled by
Sami Khedira in the process, as the referee gave Tottenham a free kick in a dangerous position in the 14th minute. Gareth Bale pulled a rank on Rafael Van der Vaart as the Dutchman allowed the Welshman to take the free kick but Bale’s eventual effort
was a weak one, as he thumped the ball straight into Real Madrid’s wall.
In the 16th minute, Real Madrid took full advantage of Tottenham’s weak marking with Sami Khedira being played in by Mesut Ozil right on the edge of the home team’s penalty area. However, the German midfielder was wayward with his shot as he dragged
the ball wide of Gomes’ goal. In the 26th minute, Tottenham had a wonderful chance to open the scoring at their home stadium as Lennon played in Pavlyuchenko inside the Real Madrid penalty area. Fortunately for the visitors, Tottenham’s target-man
blasted his shot high and wide over the cross bar, while the score line remained at nil all at the White Hart Lane stadium.
In the 39th minute, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ricardo-Carvalho-c30973 became the first player to get booked on the night as he tackled Huddlestone to the ground when the Englishman was on his way into the Real Madrid penalty area. Nonetheless, the first half came to an end shortly
after with both the teams failing to score a single goal in the first half of football at the White Hart Lane stadium. Real Madrid started the half more confident of the two teams, but Tottenham too was denied two certain penalties as well.
