Tottenham Hotspur versus Birmingham City: Second half review - English Premier League (Part 1)
Tottenham started the second half just as they had finished the first half. After dominating the first 45 minutes of the match, Tottenham finally got their first goal of the afternoon in the 49th minute as http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Roman-Pavlyuchenko-c31639
sent the home crowd into a party mood when he unleashed a brilliant strike from outside the Birmingham City penalty area. The Russian striker’s shot proved to be un-saveable for Ben Foster as Tottenham took the lead.
With their http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alex-c4752 McLeish’s team started to commit more men forward. This meant that the
away side were susceptible to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Aaron-Lennon-c3062 and Jermain Defoe’s pace on the counter attack. But given the dire circumstances, Birmingham City took this risk.
In the 51st minute, Liam Ridgewell went into the referee’s book after the young defender brought http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barry-Ferguson-c7311 with ease.
In the 53rd minute, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Younes-Kaboul-c37543 as well. Unluckily for the former Newcastle
United man, his eventual shot lacked sufficient power as Cudicini held onto it with utmost ease.
In the 54th minute, Tottenham almost added to their advantage. At first it was Defoe who got a shot off at http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liam-Ridgewell-c22240. However the
ball fell towards http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Luka-Modric-c22857 whose finish was tipped away by Ben Foster as the score line remained at nil all at the White Hart Lane stadium.
As the second half progressed, Tottenham descended into their defensive shell. The Blues took advantage of this despite playing away from their home stadium as Birmingham started to control the possession of the football. With
a monopoly over possession, Birmingham also dictated the tempo of the match which didn’t suit Tottenham at all as Modric and Lennon were isolated out of the game.
