Tottenham Hotspur versus Birmingham City: Second half review - English Premier League (Part 2)
In the 59th minute, Tottenham attempted to surge forward on a quick counter attack but the home side were stopped in their tracks by Craig Gardener who committed a cynical challenge on http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Danny-Rose-c10222 at the left back position.
This infringement by Gardener earned him a yellow card by the referee.
In the 64th minute, Birmingham City had a brilliant chance to score the equalizing goal as Larsson’s cross found http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Roger-Johnson-c31524 inside the Tottenham penalty area. The robust defender was forceful in his header but his
effort lacked accuracy as it went wide of the target. In the 76th minute, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Sebastian-Larsson-c32733 made way for Derbyshire as Birmingham City went for the kill at the White Hart Lane stadium.
With their Premier League future on the line, Birmingham found a route back into the match in the 79th minute; Huddlestone’s header fell to Craig Gardener at the edge of the Tottenham penalty area. The former Aston Villa
midfielder didn’t need an invitation to shoot as he slotted the ball home by putting it into the bottom right hand corner of the home team’s goal.
Gardener’s goal gave Birmingham City new found belief in themselves as they pushed onwards for a win. In the 82nd minute, Gardener was in thick of the action once again as his free kick just missed Carlo Cudicini’s goal
by a whisker as the score line remained at one all at the White Hart Lane stadium. In the 84th minute, Nico Kranjcar came on for Thomas Huddlestone as Tottenham went for the win themselves as well.
Shortly after the substitution, Tottenham had a wonderful chance to regain the lead thanks to a fine run by http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jermain-Defoe-c18359 at the far post whose header missed Birmingham’s goal by mere inches.
In the 93rd minute, Birmingham City were caught out at the back as http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Roman-Pavlyuchenko-c31639 netted a last minute winner for the home team.
After Fahey’s miss down the other end for the Blues’, Pavlyuchenko produced a wonderful shot from outside the Birmingham penalty area in order to secure a 2-1 win for the home side with the last kick of the match. Nonetheless
the match eventually came to an end and Birmingham were consequently relegated as a result of their loss to Tottenham by two goals to one.
