Tottenham Hotspur vs Everton expected to go ahead despite London riots, Daniel Levy offers support

Tottenham Hotspur confirmed on their official website that they expected the English Premier League weekend clash against Everton to go ahead as scheduled after the unrest caused by the London riots. It was expected the Spurs opening game against Everton
would be cancelled, especially since the England-Holland friendly at Wembley was called off earlier today.
The protests and looting began after Tottenham resident Mark Duggan was shot and killed by the local police. Since then the protests have only gotten more violent in nature and the protestors have taken to destroying public property and looting shops. One
of the club’s ticket offices fell victim to the vandalism and was badly affected.
With White Hart Lane just a mile away from where the protest began, it was advised that the English Premier League fixture should be called off. However, the Spurs have revealed that they intend to continue on with the match as scheduled. The police are
currently monitoring the situation and if things get worse, the clash will be called off for the safety of the supporters and the players.
The club released a statement on their official website, which read:
“Following the disturbances in Tottenham over the weekend, the club has been in ongoing discussions with the necessary authorities regarding this coming weekend's Premier League fixture against Everton.
We can advise fans that at this stage the game is going ahead and the club is doing everything it can to ensure that this remains the position.”
Despite their insistence at wanting to carry on with the match against Everton on Saturday, Tottenham Hotspur have taken some safety measures. All tours of White Hart Lane have been cancelled until further notice and the megastore has been closed down as
to protect it from looters. The Premier League is said to have the ultimate decision in postponing the fixture, if need be.
Tottenham Hotspur chairman http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Daniel-c9879 Levy revealed he was extremely disappointed by the condition London was in and the damage that had been done to the Tottenham Hotspur ticket office. He said he hoped law and order was restored before further damage was inflicted
upon the citizens and public property in the London area.
“As a major employer and business in the area, the club is deeply saddened by recent events. We are concerned about the disruption to local people’s lives and the effect on the community as a whole.”
He continued:
“Our hope is that calm and order is restored as soon as possible and that we can now look to rebuild the area and the spirit of the community.”
Many http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Everton-c13019 supporters are sceptical about travelling to London for the opening Premier League fixture, following the reports of the situation there and many are expected to miss the match.
