Tottenham Hotspur vs. Liverpool: Fantasy Premier League Picks – Gameweek 5
Manchester United versus Chelsea, at Old Trafford, may be the match of the weekend, but another equally promising showdown has to be Harry Redknapp’s Tottenham Hotspur taking of Kenny Dalglish’s Liverpool.
Taking place before the clash at Old Trafford, the Spurs versus Reds game seems a perfect appetizer for the big clash; it also provides Fantasy Premier League managers with a few opportunities to earn some points.
Overview
Liverpool fell to their first defeat of the season against Stoke City in the previous weekend; however, it was more a case of both teams playing brilliantly as opposed to one being poor.
Stoke had a gameplan and pulled it off to perfection and Liverpool did everything when it came to attacking, except finding the back of the net.
If the Reds play the same way against the Spurs, one can picture a few goals in the match.
On the other hand, Tottenham are no walkover either. With one of the most attack-minded line-ups in the entire league, keeping the Spurs quite is something Liverpool will have a job doing.
However, the London side have managed just 3 points since the start of the Premier League campaign, with Liverpool having more than twice that amount at 7.
Under Dalglish, Liverpool seem a different side and are the more likely to be doing the damage in the match.
Goalkeepers
Jose Reina or Carlo Cudicini? That is a very good question. The answer is even better, neither.
Reina is a class act, there is no doubt about that, however, he has been conceding fairly regularly and with the forward threat Tottenham pose, a clean sheet looks unlikely.
Cudicini, on the other hand, is an even bigger risk as his back four are not exactly what one would call watertight.
It best to find a keeper from a different match and avoid taking the risk.
Defenders
Daniel Agger is in fine form, however, Jose Enrique has been providing some enticing crosses into the box and it is only a matter of time before one of them is converted. Glenn Johnson may be making a return and has always been known to bag a few points
as well.
For Tottenham on the other hand, the lack of attack minded defenders is a turn off for Fantasy Premier League managers and keeping centre halves in the side is always risky.
Midfielders
What Tottenham lack in terms of attack minded defenders, they more than make up for in the midfield department.
Scott Parker impressed in the previous weekend, setting up a goal. Gareth Bale has been disappointing and Rafael Van Der Vaart is a doubt for the match, as is Aaron Lennon.
The one player they do have is Luka Modric and the match against Liverpool is just the type of game the Spurs midfielder seems to shine in.
As for Liverpool, Charlie Adam is known as the player who pulls all the strings. His range of passing and dead ball skills make him the standout choice.
Strikers
Luis Suarez has been brilliant for Liverpool so far, but in terms of earning points, the Uruguayan has not been as impressive.
Emmanuel Adebayour on the other hand, lovers scoring against the Reds and Jermaine Defoe has been known to find the back of the net against Liverpool opposition as well.
Our Picks: Charlie Adam will play a crucial role in the match for Liverpool and Adebayour looks the most likely to score, at least once.
