Tottenham Hotspur's Alan Hutton glad of rest before big games
With massive games against Manchester United and Inter Milan looming, Tottenham Hotspur defender Alan Hutton has said that he is glad of the chance for a rest.
Hutton revealed that having to play three games in the space of a week took its toll on the side, as they stuttered to a draw against Everton in the English Premier League on Saturday, 23 October.
That match came less than three days after an exhausting 4-3 defeat at the hands of European champions Inter in the UEFA Champions League in Italy.
For the first time in weeks, Spurs have a free midweek with no fixture to be played and the players are trying to make the most of it. Manager Harry Redknapp has also allowed star winger Gareth Bale to have a few days off to prepare for the visit to United
on Saturday and the return game against Inter on Tuesday.
Hutton is also glad of the chance to take a breather and the Scotland right-back told his club’s official website, "Spurs is a massive club and we're always playing in massive fixtures, so you have to keep playing to as high a level as possible. A few of
the boys were tired so it was always going to be tough late on in the [Everton] match, even though we did have some chances.
"It's brilliant to have a clear week now so that we can take it easy and make sure we get the rest in before another tough week ahead. There are a lot of big games in there. We want to do well in the Champions League, but we have to make sure we come home
do well in the league. It's tough but we've got a really strong squad and that should help us through these fixtures."
Hutton is enjoying a good run in the first-team, having started the last six matches after being a victim of several injuries and Vedran Corluka having been in strong form over the last two years, and the former Rangers player is relishing the opportunity.
"This is pretty much my most settled run in the side since I've been here due to injury and all the rest of it so I'm just glad to be back in the fold and playing. Everyone wants to play every game and I'm no different."
