Tottenham Hotspurs – Bale not for sale as Harry Redknapp’s team falls to Inter Milan
Fresh speculation has surfaced after Gareth Bale’s outstanding performance for Tottenham Hotspurs against Inter Milan in their UEFA Champions’ League group stage match. The rumors have associated Bale as Manchester United’s latest
transfer target.
However, Harry Redknapp is having none of the transfer talk that is hanging like a cloud over the Welsh wingers head. It is true that Bale himself was linked to Manchester United before Tottenham made a move for the former Southampton
left back.
Despite the fact that he started his career as a left back, under Harry Redknapp, Gareth Bale has been transformed into a left winger from his wing back position. Bale’s new role actually suits the youngster due to his outstanding
trickery and pace.
Last night, Tottenham were on their way to a historic defeat in Milan after Inter Milan had put three past the London side within the first thirty minutes of the encounter. Add to that the fact that Tottenham’s goalkeeper Heurelho
Gomez got sent off within the first twenty minutes of the game, Harry Redknapp’s side really had their work cut out for them at San Siro.
At half time, Tottenham were down and out of the contest, trailing the European champions by four goals already, it was a matter of damage control for Harry as far as the second half was concerned. Despite the fact that they were
a man down due to the red card that Gomez had received early on in the match, Tottenham were led back in the match thanks to an inspired Gareth Bale performance.
The winger netted three goals in the second half to almost accomplish a remarkable comeback for his club side. Nonetheless, Bale’s efforts were commended by his manager who said that it was a fantastic hatrick from Gareth Bale,
who yet again produced an immaculately amazing performance for Tottenham. Redknapp went onto say that Bale is one of the best left wingers in the world.
When the former West Ham manager was asked about whether Bale will be sold to a bigger European club by Tottenham, Harry proceeded onto elaborate that the winger is not for sale as Tottenham are trying to build themselves as a
club not dismantle themselves by selling off their best players. Commenting on the game itself, Harry Redknapp said that it was an amazing comeback by Tottenham as they were already four down at half time. The English national manager stated that Hotspurs
started the game off badly as they conceded a goal within the first minute.
Harry went onto say that at the half time break, Tottenham feared that they could be in for a real mauling by seven or eight goals given the way Inter Milan were playing. Redknapp admitted that when he was witnessing the comeback
first hand, he was reminded of his club’s four all draw against Arsenal during the early days of his management.
The ex-Portsmouth manager also said that he told his troops at the half time break that they will be playing for pride in the second half. He emphasized the fact to his team during his half time talk that they should not lay down
and get trampled over.
Redknapp concluded his interview by once again praising Bale as he said that his hatrick was a fantastic one from an amazing young player. Harry himself has been associated with Wayne Rooney; the Manchester United striker is reportedly
in Redknapp’s plans especially after the Englishman revealed his intent to leave United by not extending his contract with the club. Rooney’s contract runs out at the end of next year thus a move in January of 2011 is imminent from Manchester United’s point
of view.
It was expected that Rooney will be used as leverage by United who will aim to get Gareth Bale in return for the transfer. With everything still uncertain in the Wayne Rooney saga, the final decision remains to be seen.
