Tottenham Hotspurs' Harry Redknapp and Co. ready for Premier League title
Most of the fans would be considered as optimists when they reckon that Tottenham Hotspurs are going to win the Premier League title next season but Henry James Redknapp or Harry has stated that he is a realist when he considers that Tottenham have a good chance of winning the Premier League title next season.
The Spurs have qualified for the first time for the Champions League after they came in fourth last season. So far the Lilywhites have not spent much money on buying players this season; just the Brazilian midfielder Sandro but Redknapp is not worried by that information.
Redknapp reckons that the team he has already got is one of the best teams in the World and with them he is going on for a relentless march for glory. He has however revealed that he has plans to sign in a couple more players before the start of the season.
While talking to media admitted, “We need two or three players who can make the difference. We've got a big squad, but I do feel we need just that little bit of quality in one or two areas if we're going to move on from where we were last year”.
He also expressed that the Spurs indeed had a great last season and this season they will have the same game plan but will push on a bit more to get that extra bit of edge. He ambitiously expressed that he and the team want to win Championships not just to earn good positions and he knows that though winning will not be easy but it will not be impossible either.
Redkanpp came to an ailing Spurs team in 2008 from Portsmouth and soon after his arrival he rejuvenated the team that had been on the brinks of relegation to one of the strongest teams in England. Redknapp also told that it will be his aim now to establish Spurs as a regular in the top 4 at least.
He told that the top never meant that they were not good enough to face the top teams, but with a bit of luck and effort he stated, “I think the sky's the limit for us”.
Redknapp expressed his opinions of the coming season saying, “We have the players here. We have to aim for it. If we can bring one or two players in, it will make a difference, but it is a strong squad. Manchester City will be a massive factor this season. Last year we went in saying we wanted to finish in the top four and if you don't aim for things, you have no chance”.
Redknapp stated that Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool cannot be just the big guns, that cannot be the way the story goes and if it did he will have to change that. He also revealed that before Joe Cole signed the 4 year contract with Liverpool, Spurs were already in contact with him and he was about to sign the contract with the club instead.
The Englishman who was even receiving offers to coach the English team clarified that though Spurs were providing Cole with a great opportunity he must have received a better deal from Liverpool.
The 63 year old former West Ham United manager stated on the issue, “I spoke to him a month ago and I thought he was coming here. He wanted to come to Tottenham. He had made his mind up, I had no doubt about that. But a month went by and Liverpool moved in”.
Redknapp also commented on the Champions League; he elucidated his plans for the League saying that it will be a massive tournament for them but he believes that if the club is all to stand clear of the group stages they will have a very good chance of bringing up a memorable performance in the tournament.
Redknapp related that his strategy would revolve around his players, “We have good players, some fantastic ones at our club. And they can get better. We are going to have to rotate at times, we cannot play the best players all the time. I feel that, if we can bring one or two players in, it will make a difference”.
