http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Kyle-Walker-c21566, the Tottenham Hotspur defender, has revealed he is hopeful of regaining full fitness in time for the upcoming Olympics.
The English defender was unable to make himself available for selection after picking up a toe problem, which kept him sidelined for four weeks. However, he will now be looking for some consolation in form of selection for the London Olympics.
Walker admitted in an interview:
“Of course I am disappointed not to be going to the European Championships. I am in contention to be in the (Olympic) squad and would love to represent my country. I was told my recovery would take four weeks and hopefully I will be back running soon.”
Along with missing out on the European Championships, Walker and his side suffered disappointment when http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 won the UEFA Champions League. The Blues’ win ensured Tottenham Hotspur would not be playing Champions League football season despite finishing
fourth on the Premier League table.
Walker admitted it was very disappointing and disheartening for him and his squad, especially after working so hard the entire season and finishing above Chelsea on the Premier League table. Tottenham Hotspur finished fourth while the Blues managed a sixth
place finish.
The Spurs defender revealed he was pleased for his friend Ryan Bertrand, who got a surprise start in the Champions League final, but at the same was disappointed with Chelsea’s win since it meant that Tottenham Hotspur would not be playing Champions League
football next season.
He revealed:
“I had mixed emotions as I know Ryan Bertrand, he was making his debut and Chelsea are an English team, but I want to test myself at the highest level so I favoured Bayern a little.
It didn't work out as we would have liked but we just have to pick ourselves up now, dust ourselves down and challenge next year.”
He admitted the previous season had not been their best, but was certain they would bounce back next season as long as they retained their key players past the summer. Walker signed a new contract with the Spurs a few months ago and is contracted to the
club until 2017.
