Tottenham Hotspur playmaker Rafael van der Vaart has claimed that his side still stand a chance of winning the title despite losing out on the chance to catch up with the league leaders.
The Spurs are currently six points behind Manchester City and Manchester United, but have a game in hand. They had the opportunity to close the gap to four points but dropped two points with a draw against Swansea City over the weekend.
The http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Netherlands-c753 international revealed there was no doubt in his mind that the Spurs could catch up with the Manchester sides. He admitted his team shared similar views and were confident they could very well go on to win the Premier League crown.
Van der Vaart said while speaking to reporters:
“We certainly have the squad to win the title, but we don't have the experience United have and Manchester City have too many good players.
But, of course, everyone at Tottenham believes we can catch the Manchester clubs. Why not?”
Van der Vaart insisted his side had the shared belief they could go on to win the Premier League as long as they remained consistent in their upcoming fixtures. Their next four fixtures will take place at White Hart Lane, giving the London side the upper
hand.
He revealed:
“We are on a good run and nothing has changed in our dressing room. We still have the feeling that we are there at the top of the table and we are pleased with that.”
While he was confident about the future, Van der Vaart admitted his side had not been at their best against Swansea City and could have done without dropping those two points. However, the 28-year-old admitted Swansea City had been in top form and deserved
the draw for all their efforts.
Van der Vaart continued:
“Yes, it is a missed opportunity. We needed that win and then the competition at the top of the table would have opened up.
I am disappointed, but all credit to Swansea - they played some fantastic football.”
So far Rafael van der Vaart has made 16 appearances in the Premier League this season and has scored seven goals.
