Tottenham Hotspur’s potential summer transfer window targets – English Premier League (Part 1)
Tottenham’s season came to a stuttering half in the English Premier League as Harry Redknapp’s men only managed to finish fifth in the Premier League standings at the end of the season. The 2010-2011 Premier League season was a
particularly strange one for Tottenham who failed to impress especially in the post-January period.
After starting the season on a strong foot, Tottenham competed in two competitions simultaneously for the best part of the league season as Spurs were involved in the UEFA Champions League as well as the Premier League. Redknapp’s
lack of activity in the January transfer window meant that Spurs were always some way behind their immediate rivals for the 4th place spot i.e. Manchester City.
Nonetheless, despite making it to the quarterfinals of the UEFA Champions League, Spurs lost out to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 in one of their final matches of the season and thus missed out on a UEFA Champions League spot. Now as the summer transfer
window heats up and as clubs rush to secure deals for their potential targets, Redknapp must be in talks to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Daniel-c9879 Levy in order to assess Tottenham’s current squad.
The situation at White Hart Lane is probably not as desperate as it is meant out to be by the London media but Tottenham’s main priorities in the summer transfer window have to be a new striker and perhaps minor additions to the
defence and central midfield. Thus let’s take a look at what Redknapp might be interested in, in the summer transfer window...

Every Tottenham Hotspur defender will remember the 2010-2011 season as the season where http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/William-Gallas-c36874 played throughout the season with one injury or the other. Whilst acknowledging the fact that Gallas was world class throughout
Spurs’ UEFA Champions League campaign, it should be realized that he is no longer fit enough to play throughout the season on two or more fronts for Harry Redknapp’s men.
In back-up to Gallas, Redknapp has to rely on the injury prone http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jonathan-Woodgate-c19069, both of whom are extremely reliable defenders when they are fit. The problem for Harry is that King and Woodgate
are hardly ever fit enough to start more than five or so matches throughout the season.
They are bogged down in muscle strains or knee issues at one time or another and thus Redknapp needs to go out and invest in a young talent like Shawcross not only to permanently address his team’s defensive frailties.
Shawcross, who currently plays for Stoke City might be interested in a move to the higher echelons of power in the Premier League. With his http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 future at stake, Shawcross had maintain his credentials by feature for a side like
Tottenham which are destined to qualify for the UEFA Champions League given the right kind of investment in their squad.
Shawcross has the potential to form a formidable all-English partnership with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Michael-Dawson-c25288 in Tottenham’s defence. Uncompromising and quick on the ground are two words that typify Ryan’s approach to the game and this is exactly
for Tottenham need if they are to obtain a dependable back up for Gallas and a trustworthy option for the future of their http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Defence-c38904.
