Tottenham Hotspurs to turn interest to defenders
North London side, Tottenham have recently been linked with a number of strikers, which the team’s manager, Harry Redknapp, felt was just what the team needed to boost up their ability to perform well in Europe and domestically.
However, the manager has now realized that along with some quality strikers, the team could also use a couple of decent defenders at the back.
The defenders that the manager has targeted are Bolton's Gary Cahill and Blackburns Phil Jones. Cahill, who is currently twenty-four years old, will cost the team around fifteen million pounds if the team is to make a serious bid for the player. On the other
hand Jones would set the team back around ten million pounds.
Both Cahill and Jones have been in rather good form so far this season. Cahill was also being targeted by various other Premier League clubs prior to this season, including Tottenham's arch rivals Arsenal.
However, a price could not be agreed between the two teams and hence the move never took place, but Tottenham seem to be on track of luring the player to the White Hart Lane as early as January, that is of course if Bolton are willing to let go of one of
the best players in the squad.
Jones, who has been brilliant for both Blackburn and the England Under 21's is also scheduled to make the move, this move could prove to be just what the youngster needs to jump start his career and road to superstardom, which he will not be able to achieve
at Blackburn.
Tottenham, who have a more than capable midfield and attack, could really use the duo at the back. It is also fairly obvious that Jones would not be making as many first team appearances for the team as Cahill would, but as time progresses the England Under-21
star would only work his way up the team.
Nonetheless, both the players could prove to be great future prospects for the team as they are guaranteed to be around for at least another five seasons, which is a long time for any team to stabilize themselves and prepare to launch a successful title
challenge.
It still remains unclear if the team will look to pursue both the players in the January transfer window or the one at the end of the season, but it is guaranteed that the team will be looking to target both the English center backs as soon as they can.
