Tottenham Join The Race For The New Drogba: Lukaku
Tottenham Hotspur have emerged as the latest club interested in Romelu Lukaku, the 17 year old Belgian striker. Reports reveal that Spurs have already contacted Lukaku’s club, Anderlecht and have made enquires about the youngster.
The 17 year old wonder kid is the most talked about upcoming player in Europe and many top flight European clubs have already disclosed their interest in him. Despite his young age, he has already made five appearances for his national
side.
Last season Lukaku scored 18 goals in 43 appearances for Anderlecht and this season has increased his goal tally by scoring seven goals in the sixteen games he has featured. Lukaku is fast becoming a regular for club and country and will
be tough to pry him away from Belgium.
Lukaku will be pleased to hear that he has been dubbed as “the new Drogba”; there could be no bigger praise for a young striker than to be compared to Didier Drogba. Drogba, the Chelsea hit man is the complete striker; he is exceptional
in the air and possesses great strength, pace and an eye for goal.
If Lukaku indeed possesses all these characteristics, then the hype surrounding him seems justified. Drogba, who is well past his prime still has the biggest European clubs lining up for his services, so it is no surprise that so many
clubs are ready to fight it out for Lukaku’s signature.
Anderlecht have placed a price of £20 million on their star striker and Tottenham who are looking to bring the striker to White Hart Lane will be determined to meet the price before anyone else beats them too it.
Redknapp will face colossal competition from Europe’s top clubs and it will take more than a miracle for Lukaku to sign with the Spurs. Christophe Henrotay, the player’s agent, claimed that Arsenal, Chelsea, Juventus and Inter Milan are
interested in signing the youngster.
However, Tottenham and Europe’s elite might have to wait until next summer to sign the youngster. Lukaku has made it clear that he wishes to remain at Anderlecht until next year and complete his studies. It is only after that “the new
Drogba” will consider leaving Belgium.
