Tottenham Wants Fabiano and Redknapp Is Desperate to Pick a Spot in the Top Four (Part 1)
Sevilla’s star striker Luis Fabiano is still on Tottenham Hotspurs manager’s list of “must haves” and it seems that Harry Redknapp is ready to do almost anything to get the player to White Hart Lane, this season.
Redknapp has his eyes fixed on the striker and believes that this is the man who will lead his team to countless victories. The striker has the litheness to play multiple positions in the field and this would give Redknapp the advantage to play different formations and try out the 4-2-3-1 system. Right now, he feels that none of the forwards that he currently has can be played in that formation. However, the major restraints in signing Fabiano are his transfer fee, wage demands and then his age. Still, Redknapp has his claws jammed into the player and feels like he must have him. The Spurs boss is working tirelessly to strike a deal with chairman and the player that could actually work. But, what could be the biggest barrier in the transfer is the fact that how ‘lily whites’ tape up Juande Ramos, Sevilla’s former boss. So right now, Fabiano’s move to Tottenham Hotspurs is kind of a tender topic in the club.
On the other hand, Altecito Madrid is also interested in the player and Sevilla have this chance to pick a bone from The Spurs’ chairman as Los Rojiblancos feels that they were once wronged by him in the past. So, logically they have increased the transfer fees. Daniel Levy’s decisions regarding his club tend to be rigid and final while more often than not he doesn’t let Redknapp have his way. Last season, Spurs’ boss wanted to bring in the thirty one year old Matthew Upson and forty year old David James to the club. Redknapp was sure that these two players would ensure Tottenham Hotspurs’ position in the top four of the Premier League but Levy didn’t come down in this matter.
It is still unclear how the manager feels about bringing in Fabiano. But it is thought that he isn’t going to do that any time before Redknapp lets one of his players go, in order to even out the wages bills. The list from which players are thought to go includes Roman Pavlyuchenko, Jermaine Defoe, Peter Crouch and Robbie Keane. Fabiano would be done with his present contract and available for a free transfer next summer, but Redknapp feels like this is the chance to bag a player that would normally be out of their price range. Right now, with Fabiano under contract they will be able to fit him in their wage bill but later on when he would be a free transfer then he may demand a lot more money.
Fabiano has a lot of admirers. He is strong, quick, and simply brilliant on the field plus he also has a keen eye for scoring goals but as a result of bad blood between both clubs, Sevilla has set his transfer rate at an amazingly high price of sixteen million pounds. The biggest problem being faced by Hotspurs in sealing this deal is that they want him right now and waiting for him till the next season could prove to be a major disadvantage for the club.
