Tottenham Wants Fabiano and Redknapp Is Desperate to Pick a Spot in the Top Four (Part 2)
For other clubs like AC Milan, Bayern Munich and Inter Milan, this is not an issue as they can sign the player next season and also offer Fabiano twice the wage scale compared to what the Spurs’ can.
While on the other hand, Harry Redknapp is under a lot of pressure this season to at least see through Tottenham Hotspurs in the top four of the Premier League. In order to make that possible, he is trying to push Daniel Levy to get him the star striker now but Levy doesn’t seem too keen with the idea apparently due to Fabiano’s old age and fears of his almost no re-sale value. Plus he doesn’t like the idea of paying sixteen million pounds for a player that would be up for free grabs next summer. Levy also seems concerned with Fabiano’s physical fitness.
Fabiano has played 127 matches out of a total of 190 since 2005 which means that for one reason or the other, he missed out on sixty three matches. This also means that he missed out in almost two seasons and played an average of only twenty five matches per season. It should be noted that this happened in a League that is a lot less physically demanding than the English Premier League. Looking at the history, it takes almost two years for a player to properly adjust to a new style of league playing and then there are those players also who are unable to cope with the physical demands of playing in the league. The clear example for this is that of Robin Van Persie, who has played only 133 matches out of a total of 230 and from those 133 matches also, he only started 81 matches. It seems that ‘The Gunners’ can cope with a player like Persie but one thing is for sure, that Hotspurs doesn’t have that luxury.
Levy wants to wait till January before even thinking of signing Fabiano and also wants his manager to look at other young alternatives such as Edin Dzeko from Wolfsburg, who could be brought in for something around ten million pounds. Redknapp clearly knows that he needs at least four really talented strikers to make it work this summer and also the fact that Levy is only going to back him on a new recruitment if he sells off an old player. In this end, it wouldn’t be a surprise if Peter Couch or Robbin Keane get touted around in the Premier League. Redknapp had a falling out with the Irish Striker Keane last season, when the latter organized a Christmas trip behind his boss’s back while till now he has denied all the rumors floating about Crouch leaving the club. Still, that has not stopped all the speculation connecting Crouch to Stoke, Sunderland or even Everton.
However, it does appear that the strikers with the most chances of moving on from Tottenham Hotspurs would be Roman Pavlyuchenko and Robbie Keane. It’s also rumored that Keane, David Bentley and Jermaine Jenas were offered to join Aston Villa in exchange for a hook up with Ashley Young. All the while, other clubs like Wolves, Sunderland Fulham and Birmingham also seem to be interested in these players.
Last but not the least, a lot of people think that selling off Keane would be a major blunder on Redknapp’s part as he is one of the very few Tottenham players who can go deep into the opponents’ defense line, be creative along the way and in the end score a goal.
