Tottenham and Chelsea want to sign Ricky Van Wolfswinkel
Tottenham and Chelsea are reported to be pursuing FC Utrecht striker Ricky Van Wolfswinkel. Along with the two North London sides, Newcastle United and Birmingham City are also in strong contention to land the services of the player.
Wolfswinkel has had a tremendous start to his season this time around the young striker has gone on to score 15 goals in the 15 appearances that he has made for Utrecht this season. The 21-year-old player has tremendous ball control, brilliant movement and some of the best positional sense at such a young age. Wolfswinkel is rather quick for a lone centre forward and absolutely lethal in one-on-one situations.
Apart from just having a name that is sure to guarantee him super star status, the young Dutch player also seems to be the real deal. He is currently loaded with untapped talent and potential that could put the biggest of names to shape, if it is tapped correctly. In fact this player has also gone as far as being dubbed to be the new Rudd Van Nistelrooy. It is easy to see why he had gotten that nick name. A look at his statistics just confirms that.
The young forward has scored 15 goals so far this season and by looking at how the season has barley just kicked off, those stats are something of a wonder to look at. Nonetheless, the more important thing about all the goals that he has scored is the fact that they have mostly been scored in the Europa League. This just means that the player is more than capable of playing on the bigger stage and hence a move to a bigger team would be anything but a step backwards. Wolfswinkel even managed to score a delightful hat-trick which knocked Celtic out of the Europa League.
Chelsea are currently the firm favorites to ink a deal with the player. The teams’ manager Carlo Ancelotti has admitted that he is now looking to build the team for the future and hence he is looking to sign younger players as opposed to the standard, seasoned more experienced players. Wolfswinkel’s move to Chelsea could prove to be a wise move for the young striker as he would join a team that are currently in prime form and don’t look like stopping any time soon. He would also gain some firsthand advice from the likes of Didier Drogba at the club.
On the other hand, the players move to Stamford Bridge would also benefit the Blues. Chelsea are currently overwhelmed with talent, but those stars are nearing their blow out phase and sooner rather than later will have to leave the side after burning out. Players like Wolfswinkel could come into the side and ensure that the flame and impact that Chelsea have on the league and the rest of Europe, never goes out. The team already has quite a few talented young players and the addition of another could do wonders for the team. It only helps the team even further when the younger players that are being brought in are as talented and gifted as Wolfswinkel.
Wolfswinkel, if brought in now, would not only get some advice from some of the best talents in the world, but would also start to develop an understanding with the likes of Gael Kakuta and Daniel Sturridge, who are two players in the Chelsea squad that are bound to carry the team to success in the future.
However, it is now up to the player to decide whether he wants to join a bigger club now, or wait for his raw talent to develop even further before he makes the jump.
