Tottenham have moved a step closer to signing last season’s on-loan striker http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Emmanuel-Adebayor-c12526 from Manchester City after both clubs agreed a deal for the Togolese forward.
The 28-year old began his Premier League career with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429 in 2006, having joined the North London club from Monaco. The Togolese then moved to Manchester City for a fee believed to be around £25 million on a five-year contract.
The striker was unable to secure a place in the first team as City went on a spending spree and added to their squad. Adebayor was loaned out to Real Madrid in the 2010/2011 season and then to Tottenham Hotspur in the following season.
Adebayor was an instant hit at Tottenham, scoring 17 goals in 33 appearances. His form saw him go from villain to hero, as he quickly became a fan favourite at White Hart Lane.
It was clear that Adebayor was keen on signing a permanent deal with Tottenham after falling out of favour at the Etihad Stadium. The striker had one year remaining on his £170,000-a-week contract with City and it is believed that Tottenham will offer him
a massive signing-on fee as they attempt to fit him into their wage structure.
New Spurs manager Andre Villas-Boas is fond of the Togolese forward and it is understood that he is very much a part of his plans for next season.
"It would be a lie if I tell you we are not looking for a striker," Villas-Boas told reporters. "And of course Ade is part of that list. We are extremely willing to have Adebayor on board with us."
Having already signed Icelandic international Gylfi Sigurdsson and Belgian centre-half http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jan-Vertonghen-c17814, Spurs have strengthened two areas of their squad.
Despite reports linking Modric with a move away from White Hart Lane, Spurs do not look too worried about their midfield, with reports suggesting a move for Porto’s Joao Moutinho looking imminent.
Spurs largely depended on Adebayor last season, as he was their main striker. The end of his loan spell raised many concerns for the striking department, as Spurs only have http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Giovani-dos-Santos-c14983 on their pay-roll.
Adebayor is expected to finalize his move by the end of this week, pending the results of a medical.
