Tottenham and West Ham United chasing Stephane Sessegnon; Frank Lampard urges Chelsea to keep going
English Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur are set to go all out in pursuit of Stephane Sessegnon, the defender from Paris Saint-Germain. Meanwhile, another club from London, West Ham United, is also believed to be interested in attaining the services of the defender.
Earlier, it was reported that West Ham United were all but sure to sign Sessegnon, but recently Spurs have made inroads in the chase. Tottenham are believed to have offered a bid of 6.5 million pounds to the French club for the defender.
However, the offer is still well below the required amount from the Paris club. PSG estimated the price of Sessegnon to be around 15 million pounds, who they signed for 6 million pounds from Le Mans.
Tottenham is also looking to sell Jermaine Jenas and David Bentley to gather funds and reshape the team for the Champions League this season.
In other news from the Premier League, Frank Lampard, the star midfielder from the English champions Chelsea, has said that despite the 6-0 win in the 1st game, the team needs to stay focused to defend the title.
The massive win in the first game was a sign of intent from the Blues, and they looked to have carried on the momentum from last season, where they scored the most number of goals by any team and won the English Premier League.
The result was a much needed boost for Chelsea, who in pre-season had lost the last 3 games and had followed it up with a 3-1 loss to Manchester United in the Community Shield match.
Lampard said that the start is fantastic, but the team needs to carry on the momentum and keep the levels high throughout. He said that the 2nd league game against Wigan is very crucial in underlining the form of the team and he is sure that another convincing win is on the cards.
He said that it was a welcome break for him and the team, because there are no games in midweek and the whole team can focus on the upcoming game on Saturday.
Lampard said that after the first match, he felt some swelling in his knee, and the rest week would be good for him to get back in shape. The England midfielder said that even though the score-line suggested that the team played to its potential, that is not the case. He added that there are a lot of areas that they can still improve on, and it would have to be done in quick time for the long and gruelling season ahead.
Lampard said that the Community Shield loss was disappointing, but he said that a match of that magnitude came a bit too early for the team and they were not ready for it at the time.
Frank Lampard said that the team looks rejuvenated in the new season, and the goal is not only to retain the title but to also finally go out and win the Champions League this season. He said that for a club like Chelsea, it is not acceptable that they have not yet won a European crown. He reflected back on the last two Champions League campaigns and said that the loss in the final in Moscow against Manchester United was just pure bad luck, and next year a later Iniesta goal kept them away from another final. He said that this year, he knows that his team is good enough to take the final step and win the Champions League this season.
