Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp: Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho should succeed Alex Ferguson at Manchester United
Tottenham Hotspur boss, Harry Redknapp revealed he was confident that Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho would eventually manage English Premier League giants Manchester United. The current United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is 69 years old and having managed
the Red Devils for 25 years is thought to be close to retirement.
The Spurs boss went up against Mourinho in the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals, losing 5-0 to the La Liga giants on aggregate. Madrid delivered a 4-0 thrashing at the Bernabeu in the first leg and then scored one goal at White Hart Lane to eliminate
Tottenham from the European competition and proceed to the semi-finals.
Even though the La Liga title seems out of reach for Madrid, as they are eight points behind leaders Barcelona, the Portuguese manager can still guide his side to a cup double. With Madrid in the semi-finals of the Champions League and the final of Copa
del Rey, they have to overcome their toughest rivals Barcelona in both competitions in order to claim the trophies.
It is expected Mourinho will look for a fresh challenge when he decides to leave Madrid and Redknapp believes he will take charge of Manchester United. Mourinho has previously managed English Premier League giants Chelsea, leading them to back-to-back Premier
League titles and various cup titles in his time there.
After that, he went on to manage Serie A side Inter Milan, leading them to the treble; the domestic double and the UEFA Champions League. The Blues were the only side he failed to win the Champions League with, having previously led http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Porto-c39186 to European
glory before he arrived in England. Redknapp feels Mourinho has what it takes to manage the Red Devils.
The Spurs boss said Mourinho was one of the best managers he had gone up against. He was of course referring to the Champions League defeat to Madrid.
Redknapp said while speaking to reporters, “Of those (managers) I have faced this campaign there is one who stands head and shoulders above the others - Jose Mourinho.”
Redknapp continued, “Some are calling the Real Madrid boss the Marmite manager - you either love him or hate him. I am one of those who has nothing but admiration for the former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 chief, who I think will end up managing Manchester United one day in
the very distant future when Alex Ferguson calls time.”
Redknapp revealed Mourinho was currently one of the top managers in the game, “Jose is switched on to the demands of the modern game and tuned in to his mega-star, world-class players who give him the utmost respect because they know he is exceptional at
his job. For me, he is a very clever manager,” he added.
However, Redknapp believes the Portuguese manager would have to wait until Sir Alex Ferguson retired; the Scot seems to be set for a few more seasons at Old Trafford. When the time came though, the Spurs manager said Mourinho was currently the only manager
who possessed the necessary ability and confidence to succeed Ferguson.
