Tottenham defeat Aston Villa in a thriller, Everton register first win
Dutch star, Rafael Van der Vaart shines once again helping Tottenham Spurs defeat their rivals Aston Villa by two goals to one in an action-packed game.
Aston Villa surprised the home side when Emile Heskey provided an assist to Marc Albrighton who kept his composure and converted it into a goal from close range just after fifteen minutes, but shortly after the goal provider got hurt and was off from the
ground.
The visitors got the lead up front only after quarter hour mark gone, when centre forward Emile Heskey, showing his tackling ability won a challenge near the centre line. He made superb run and then fed the ball to Marc Albrighton who calmly tapped in from
close range. Heskey, then was caught and got injured, which signalled his end of the game. The departure of Emile Heskey left Villa’s attacking options short and the aerial threat was minimized, which significantly played a part in their downfall.
Aston Villa got another blow in a matter of few minutes, when Van der Vaart levelled the match with a help from Peter Crouch’s header in third minute of extra time of first half. He then came close to score the second for his side but his shoot was distracted
from a close range. But as the best players do not take much time to make up for their misses, he went onto score a brace after getting another assist from Crouch’s header, which ultimately sealed the victory for Spurs.
Rafael Van der Vaart's eight million pound signing is looking as the best signing of the premier league in this year’s summer transfer window, as the Netherland’s star is looking in sublime form scoring four goals in last three matches. He has instantly
become a fan favourite, and it would not be wrong to say that Tottenham can count on him as their new Talisman.
Dutch star was signed on deadline day and has immediately settled into the pace of premiership, which is phenomenal as in the past several great players have found it hard to instantly settle, owing to their physical demands for performing at English Premier
League.
The 27-year-old has been rescuing his side in last three games with outstanding performances against Wolves in the league, then against FC Twente in the champions’ league, which earned Tottenham their first-ever Champions League victory.
The win is significantly important for Tottenham as Aston Villa are one of the teams vying for Champions League spot alongside Liverpool, Manchester City and Spurs.
In the other match of the Premier League, Everton finished Birmingham's eighteen match undefeated record run at home (St Andrews) with help from Roger Johnson and Tim Cahill’s super headed goal.
The own goal came when Leon Osman crossed the ball in the box and Johnson headed into his own net after being under-pressured from Australian Tim Cahill. The Aussie finally scored a goal, which was counted as his own on a cross from Leighton Banes. Everton's
joy was doubled as it was their first victory this season, and their win pushed arch-rivals Liverpool in the danger zone languishing at bottom three.
Everton manager David Moyes said he was relieved as the first win has eased off the pressure, and it is nice to get the first victory under the belt.
