Tottenham get lucky as they win a point away at West Brom
Tottenham Hotspur were more then just fortunate to find themselves leaving the Hawthrons with a point that they seemed to not deserve against West Ham Albion.
The game was one where there were hardly any chances being created by both teams. Tottenham were the more threatening team initially and thanks to some poor defending by West Brom, Luka Modric was able to score the opener for Tottenham. Both Gabriel Tamas and Jonas Olsson were to blame for that goal as both of them failed to make a routine clearance of a cross that was whipped into the box by Rafael van der Vaart, the poor defending allowed Modric to slip past the defense and go onto blast one past a rather helpless Scott Carson.
However Tottenham's joy was short lived by both the player and the team. Modric was forced to leave the pitch as he couldn't carry on play any more due to an injury that the midfielder picked up. However things soon got worse for the visiting team.
West Brom managed to pull of an equalizer off the very first attack that team actually launched. Marc-Antoine Fortune managed to make a forceful run past Vedran Corkula and took shot towards goal. The initial shot was saved by Carlo Cudicini, however the Italians effort was only good enough to knock the ball back into the danger area. Chris Brunt managed to somehow lash onto the loose ball in the area and bundled it over the line and past the keeper to score the equalizer that seemed to be a long time coming in the match.
Cudicini however managed to make up for his earlier mistakes. In the second half the Italian keeper made two fantastic saves that kept West Brom from taking the lead and helped keep Tottenham into the game. West Ham continued to apply a series of pressure in the dying minutes of the game, however Tottenham somehow kept the team at bay and took home one point from the game as it ended in the score line reading one goal a piece.
This draw would only add to Tottenham's growing frustrations as the team has already been more than poor over the past couple of weeks. However Tottenham will have to bounce back from this draw, if they wish to win their first ever Champions League group stage game, which is scheduled to take place mid week.
