The 25-year-old has garnered interest from several English Premier League clubs including Manchester United, Arsenal and Newcastle United, but Spurs now seem to be the favourites to land his signature this summer.
Reports from Amsterdam Arena indicate that Tottenham Hotspur have made an official approach for Ajax Amsterdam central defender, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jan-Vertonghen-c17814.
The Belgian stopper’s agent, Mustapha Nakhil, has confirmed the reports and revealed that talks have been initiated between the two clubs over a deal believed to be around 10 million Euros.
The highly-rated central defender has been a long term target for the Lilywhites. The English Premier League outfit also tried to lure the Belgian International away from Amsterdam Arena in the winter transfer window earlier this year. However, the move
failed to materialise after the centre-back made it clear that he would not be moving away before the end of the season.
Vertonghen, who has been plying his trade at Amsterdam Arena since the summer of 2006, has also garnered interest from Newcastle United, Manchester United and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429, who have expressed keen interest in acquiring his signature this summer.
The 25-year-old’s agent has revealed that his client dreams to play in the highest echelons of English football.
“Jan does have a few dream clubs, which are very special to him. To play in the top of the Premier League is something he always hoped for”, Nakhil was quoted as saying to De Telegraaf.

The Belgian stopper has thus far represented the Amsterdam giants in well over 100 matches and has also netted 21 goals along the way. His consistent performances for the past couple of seasons have made him one of the best centre-backs playing in Europe.
Vertonghen has an ongoing contract with Ajax that runs until the summer of 2013. However, with several clubs taking interest in acquiring his signature coupled with the highly-rated central defender’s desire to move abroad this summer, it seems unlikely
that the Belgian International would be wearing the Amsterdammers’ colours next season.
Reports indicate that the Ajax management will not let go of their prized asset for anything less than 12 million Euros.
