Tottenham keen to hold on to Crouch and looking forward to European challenge

As the transfer market continues in European football, numerous players are being linked with different clubs.  Tottenham Striker Peter Crouch has been linked with a move out of White Hart Lane. The Spurs’ assistant manager Joe Jordan has said that he does not expect his striker to leave the club.
Crouch’s former club Liverpool have been strongly linked with signing back their lanky striker, while another club from Mersey side Everton are also believed to be interested in the services of the England striker. Meanwhile Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp is also believed to be interested in gathering funds to sign striker Loic Remy.
Jordan said that Crouch will be a very important player for the team this season, also considering that Tottenham will be playing in the Champions’ League. Jordan said that Crouch has had experience in Europe with Liverpool and also has played at the highest level with England, so he will be a very important player for them.
The Tottenham assistant manager, while speaking at a media briefing in Scotland, said that when they were trying to buy Crouch there were number of clubs in contention. He added that Peter is a quality player, and there is no doubt that there are several clubs trying to get their hands on him. He said that the club will not make it easy for any club to take him away.
Tottenham’s Irish striker Robbie Keane has also made his way back after spending a season on loan at Scottish Club Celtic. Jordan said that Keane is also a quality striker and there will be intense competition for places upfront.
He said that Keane has already scored twice for the club in pre season, and added that he has hit good form during his loan spell.
Jordan said, when he came to Spurs with Harry Redknapp they were in all sorts of problems; the team had just 2 points from 8 games in the league.  He said that Harry brought in number of players and Keane was a part of those signings. Bringing the Irishman back was a great move and similarly bringing back Jermaine Defoe was also a wise move that helped the team to a great degree.
He said that, under the guidance of Harry, he worked really hard on the revival of the team.  Taking a team from the brink of relegation to the glory of Europe has been a long but adventurous journey.
Harry Redknapp, the Tottenham manager, has said that he knows one or 2 players in his team who may decide to leave before the 31st of August. He added that he is also planning on signing at least 2 more players if a good deal can be established.
Tottenham Hotspurs have long been under the shadow of their more accomplished and bitter city rivals Arsenal.  Gunners, who in early part of the decade, were fighting tooth and nail with Manchester United for the title have not been good enough to challenge for the title. While Spurs have made great advancements; finishing 4th just below Arsenal is a great evidence of that.
Harry Redknapp has said that now he wants his team to take the next step, and compete shoulder to shoulder against the top European clubs and not just be there to make up the numbers.
