Tottenham look to claim fourth spot with win over Newcastle
Newcastle face a tough visit to White Hart Lane, as they take on Harry Redknapp’s ambitious Tottenham side. Spurs will be clear favourites, having not lost a match since early November. However, Newcastle have proved time and time again that they are no
pushovers. The Toons have already recorded wins against the likes of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 and Arsenal, and held Chelsea to a draw at St.James’ Park earlier in the season. Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp will be wary of the threat that Newcastle pose to his side’s title
ambitions.
Spurs will however have to make do without their star striker. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jermain-Defoe-c18359 is serving a three match suspension for the straight red card he received against Aston Villa. Harry Redknapp has already stated that he does not plan to appeal the decision; however,
he maintained that the sending off was harsh. Like any good manager, Redknapp does have a contingency plan. Either Pavlyuchenko or Crouch will be filling in for Defoe on Tuesday. The dangerous http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Luka-Modric-c22857 should also be fit to play, despite having to come
off in the last game. Meanwhile, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/William-Gallas-c36874 looks unlikely to feature at all, having suffered a hamstring injury two weeks ago.
Meanwhile Newcastle will be without Kevin Nolan, who is also serving a suspension, and Striker Shola Ameobi is still recovering from injury. Second choice keeper Tim Krul will be in action once again, as Steve Harper has yet to regain his fitness following
his shoulder surgery. Alan Pardew will however be happy that Steven Taylor and Andy Carroll can focus on the game ahead. Both stars have recently signed long-term contracts with Newcastle, finally ending speculation over their future at the club.
Alan Pardew will be looking for a win to get Newcastle’s season back on track. The Toon boss has had to endure a rocky start to his managerial career at the club. Pardew had the unenviable job of succeeding http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chris-c9006 Hughton - one of the most revered managers
in Newcastle’s recent history. Since he took over though, Newcastle defeated Liverpool and were unlucky to come away empty handed from their match against Manchester City.
A win for Tottenham will see them leapfrog http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 to take fourth place. Harry Redknapp though is aiming much higher than that. The Spurs manager is looking for nothing less than the Barclays Premier League title this season. At this stage, each point will
be invaluable for Tottenham, especially since Manchester United have started to open up a huge gap at the top. In one of the closest title races in recent memory, even a Champions League place is not ensured.
Newcastle have a chance to close in on the coveted Europa League spot with a win. However, Tottenham might just prove to be too big of a hurdle, as Harry Redknapp’s side push for their first Premier League title in 20 years. All signs point towards a cracking
encounter at White Hart Lane on Tuesday.
