Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly lodged a €15 million for Rennes midfielder and former Arsenal target Yann M’Vila.
The North London club entered the race for the highly rated defensive midfielder yesterday when numerous reports from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 and France claimed that the club was one of the many that was interested in landing the Frenchman’s services this season.
Tottenham have been in the pursuit of a midfield player who would fill the void left by the imminent departure of want-away star http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Luka-Modric-c22857. It seems like manager Andre Villas-Boas has identified M’Vila as that replacement after talks linking him with a
move for Porto’s Joao Moutinho died down.
The 22-year old player has been one of the hottest commodities on the transfer market this summer and has attracted the attention of a number of clubs. M’Vila’s rise to prominence came after his successful seasons with Rennes over the past two years and
his call up to the French national team. At the age of just 22, M’Vila is a first team regular for Les Blues.
Rennes are understood to be holding out for a fee of around €20 million for the player, though sources suggest that the club may lower their valuation considering their current financial situation. Tottenham have moved ahead of local rivals http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429 as they
hope to acquire the midfield enforcer this summer.
Arsenal had long been favourites to sign the player, but his recent bust up with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/France-c2899 national team manager Laurent Blanc during the June Euro 2012 tournament had put off Arsene Wenger. Wenger is understood to be a huge admirer of M’Vila, but the player’s
off the pitch behaviour and attitude apparently created doubts about the move, and interest from Arsenal has cooled over the past few weeks.
M’Vila is a very disciplined and old fashioned defensive midfielder, whose most visible strength is his ability to read the opposition’s play, break up their attack and put the ball through to the attackers. The Frenchman is known to be a very good tackler
and a physically imposing player.
Tottenham look to further strengthen their squad and M’Vila is currently top of the club’s priority list.
