Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp still confident of finishing in fourth place – EPL News
Tottenham Hotspur manager, Harry Redknapp, is still optimistic of his side’s chances of retaining their Champions League status, by finishing fourth in the Barclays Premier League this season. Redknapp’s comments come just after Tottenham’s disappointing
draw against West Bromwich Albion, at the White Hart Lane on Saturday, April 23.
The London club’s Champions League ambitions were dealt with a huge blow, when Roy Hodgson’s spirited West Brom side held the Spurs to a 2-2 draw at their home turf. The draw allows the fourth placed Manchester City to open up a huge gap between the two,
should the Blues manage to win their next Premier League encounter.
The Baggies got off to the best possible start, as the visitors went ahead just five minutes after the starting whistle. Tottenham fought back and took the lead with two 20-yard strikes from Pavlyuchenko and Defoe, on either side of half-time. An 80th-minute
strike from substitute Simon Cox earned West Brom a much deserved point, ensuring that the side will avoid relegation by the end of the season.
The result means that the Spurs are now still a point behind Manchester City, having played a game more. It has left the London club with a mountain to climb, in the remaining four games of the season.
Spurs manager, Harry Redknapp is confident that his players have what it takes and said, “It's going to be difficult but it's still all to play for. I find it hard that now everyone expects us to be in the Champions League. Tottenham had never been in it
before until this season and suddenly it is like 'we have to be in the Champions League'. Manchester City have gone out and spent God knows what to get above us. It's difficult to get fourth. It has been a great season but it's not over yet."
Spurs won the race for the fourth place in the last campaign, but a repeat of that phenomenal achievement looks unlikelier this season. Tottenham currently sit on the fifth spot in the Premier League standings, with a total of 55 points.
