Tottenham Hotspur are not willing to let goalkeeper http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Hugo-Lloris-c16408 leave the club in January, despite reports that suggest the player is unhappy with his role at the club.
The http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/France-c2899 national team captain moved to the club in a high-profile deadline day transfer this summer, and was expected to be the club’s first choice keeper considering his status as a player.
However, Lloris has since played second fiddle to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Brad-Friedel-c7953, whose impressive form in goal has restricted the Frenchman to the bench.
The French shot-stopper has only one Premier League start to his name, and has only started in the Europa League and the Capital One Cup since he arrived at White Hart Lane from Lyon.
The keeper was obviously disappointed at his lack of playing time, and has been the subject of transfer speculation and rumours that link him with a move away from the club.
Reports in France suggest that Lloris will put in a transfer request in January if he is not started against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429 in this weekend’s North London derby. With manager Andre Villas-Boas expected to start Friedel, it is likely that the player will push for
a move in the winter transfer window.
A reliable inside source at Tottenham was quoted as saying:
“There is a lot of talk about his lack of action, inside and outside the club, but there is absolutely no chance he will be sold in January. He is the future of the club.”
Lloris has already held meetings with Villas-Boas regarding his role at the club and is desperate for some playing time in the league. His national team manager Didier Deschamps has also backed the player’s stance and has repeatedly criticised Villas-Boas
for wasting him on the bench.
Villas-Boas had hit back at Deschamps by saying that his criticism does not bother him and ‘it goes in one ear comes out the other’.
This had led to a prompt reply from Deschamps, who said:
“What he (Villas-Boas) says has also the same effect on me.”
While both managers wage their war of words, Lloris’ future at the club continues to hang in the balance. Tottenham are not willing to let the player go, who is considered the club’s future number 1. If Lloris remains patient, his time may come sooner rather
than later, with Friedel expected to hang his gloves after this season.
