Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly turned down Real Madrid’s exchange deal, which offered http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Luka-Modric-c22857, and are understood to be holding out for a cash only deal of
£40 million.
The North London club have told the Spanish giants that they have no interest in a player-plus-fee deal for their Croatian midfielder as the long running transfer saga drags on. Modric has been linked with a move away from White Hart Lane for the past two
seasons.
This year, everyone expected Tottenham to let him leave, but it seems like the player is stuck with the club for now.
Real Madrid were leading the chase for the Croatian, leaving the likes of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786, Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain in their wake. Madrid are still favourites to land the player, but both clubs have failed to arrive at an agreement regarding the
midfielder’s valuation.
Tottenham have recently turned down an offer by the Spanish club that included Nuri Sahin and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ricardo-Carvalho-c30973 in exchange for Modric. It is understood that the North Londoners are not willing to settle for a price of anything less than the £40 million they
have placed on their want-away midfielder.
Madrid are reluctant in meeting Tottenham’s asking price and hoped that a player-plus-cash deal will be able to convince the club. So far, the Spanish giants have met a dead end.
Sources in North London deny reports that suggest that a deal has already been agreed between clubs. It is however believed that negotiations are ongoing between and that Madrid have recently made an improved bid of £31 million for the Croatian.
One main reason for Spurs’ reluctance to sell Modric for less than his current valuation is their interest in Porto’s midfielder Joao Moutinho, who is understood to be manager Andre Villas-Boas’ primary target of the summer. Porto want £30 million for their
player, and Spurs are hoping to pay the amount from the proceedings of Modric’s sale.
A club insider recently revealed some information about the transfer and said: “Spurs don’t want to consider a player swap as Villas-Boas knows the players he wants to reinvest the money in. Carvalho and Sahin are the two that have been mentioned but he’s
not interested at the moment. He thinks Sahin could struggle with the pace of English football and would rather go all out for Moutinho.”
With a month to go till the transfer window closes, everyone eagerly awaits the conclusion of one of the longest ever transfer sagas the Premier League has seen to date.
