Tottenham Hotspur have finally landed http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Hugo-Lloris-c16408 from Lyon on the last day of the transfer season after having seen two moves for the French goalkeeper collapse earlier this summer.
The North London club completed two transfers on deadline day, signing Fulham ace Clint Dempsey and French goalkeeper Hugo Lloris from Lyon.
The move for Dempsey was surprising as it literally came out of nowhere. The American midfielder had not been linked with a move to White Hart Lane, but Spurs made an audacious swoop for the star and signed him on the last day of the transfer window.
Lloris is entirely another story. Tottenham had expressed their interest in the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Brad-Friedel-c7953, who is approaching
retirement.
At the age of 25, Lloris represents a significant and long term capture for Tottenham, who have now assembled a balanced and complete squad to fill in the holes left by departing stars http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Luka-Modric-c22857 and Rafael Van Der Vaart.
Spurs announced the signing of the French shot stopper with a statement on their official website. The transfer cost the North London club an initial €10 million, which could rise to €15 million. Lyon will also be entitled to 20% of any future transfer dealings
involving the player.
In his first interview with Spurs' official website, the player said:
"I'm here because I believe in Tottenham. I think everything is ok for the future of Tottenham, we have great players in the team and a great coach and everything is alright and in place to get to the Champions League next year.”
"I think we have to prove ourselves on the pitch and I'm here because I believe in, and am ready to give my best for, the team and also the fans."
The goalkeeper will miss out on Spurs' game against Norwich today, but is expected to feature next week. At the moment, it remains unclear who will be the first choice goalkeeper for the club, but Lloris’s arrival has certainly taken care of finding a suitable
replacement for current number 1 Brad Friedel.
