Harry Redknapp, the Tottenham Hotspur manager, has revealed that defender http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ledley-King-c21859 will most likely be handed a new contract.
King, who has a chronic knee injury, was told by the Spurs that he would only be given a new contract if he managed 20+ appearances in the English Premier League in the 2011-2012 season. The http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 defender has done well so far and has made nine appearances
so far.
He made the same number of appearances last season, for which reason Tottenham Hotspur were not sure whether or not they wanted to retain the player. However, King has done much to prove himself this season and looks to be rewarded.
Redknapp revealed that the player, who had been with the club since 1998, was part of the club and that they were not going to leave him anytime soon. This means King will be given a new contract, to replace the one which runs out at the end of the season.
Redknapp said while speaking to reporters:
“He's part of the furniture, he's a big part of this football club and I'm sure the chairman knows that as well.”
According to the Tottenham Hotspur manager, it was partially because of King that the Spurs had managed to go undefeated in their last few English Premier League fixtures. It was for this reason Tottenham Hotspur were not willing to part with King.
He revealed:
“I'm sure he will look after him, I don't think anyone's going to go: 'Well you didn't reach 20'. There's enough goodwill towards Ledley here for what he's been through and what he is.
If he only plays 10 games, the chances are you might win the 10."
The 31-year-old central defender began his youth career at Tottenham Hotspur and graduated to the senior team in 1998. He has made a total of 258 appearances in the Premier League and has scored ten goals during that time. With the new contract, it seems
King will end his footballing career at White Hart Lane, whether it be next season or the season after that.
