http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Porto-c39186 have informed Tottenham Hotspur that they must meet Joao Moutinho’s £31.5 million release clause if they wish to secure his services for the coming season.
Joao Moutinho has been identified by Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas as a long-term and like-for-like replacement for want away midfielder http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Luka-Modric-c22857.
The Croatian has been linked with moves away from the North London club for quite some time, especially after Tottenham missed out on the Champions League for the second season running. The star midfielder has stated his desire to play in Europe’s most prestigious
club competition and his wish for a new challenge.
The player was linked to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 for the greater part of last season, but Tottenham stood resolute in their intention to hold on to him. This summer’s transfer window saw Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain join the list of clubs interested in the
coveted midfielder, but it seems like Spanish giants Real Madrid will beat everyone to the player’s signature.
It was reported today that Real Madrid and Tottenham have agreed a £35 million deal for Modric, and that the player will complete his move to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Spain-c3011 later this month.
With Modric out of the picture, Spurs face a gaping hole in their midfield, and Moutinho is just the sort of player who will perfectly fit into the Spurs set up.
FC Porto have today announced that they will not sell Moutinho for anything less than the £31.5 million release clause mentioned on his contract.
Porto manager http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Vitor-c36281 Pereira has said the club will not sell the player if interested parties are unable to meet the release clause. Speaking to ESPN, the manager said:
"I have not spoken with Villas-Boas but it is natural that he likes Moutinho. I like him, too. Clubs cannot just not sell. We really want him to stay but this is football and there are such things as release clauses. The only thing we can do is achieve results
with what we have got.”
The manager insisted on Moutinho’s quality and importance to the club and said that they just can’t let go of a player of such quality for anything less than the stated price.
