Tottenham’s http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Michael-Dawson-c25288 desperate to qualify for next season’s Champions League: EPL News
Tottenham Hotspur http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Captain-c8314, Michael Dawson, has revealed that he is desperate for his side to qualify for the next season’s Champions League. The Premier League side recently exited the competition after a 5-0 defeat on aggregate to Real Madrid in the quarter-finals.
Many would be hard-pressed to believe that Tottenham were debutants to this season’s tournament. It was widely believed that the Spurs would have trouble making it through the group stages and going all the way to the final eight. The rookie English side
took on the biggest clubs in Europe with no signs of fear, laying the foundation for future success in the world's most prestigious club competition.
However, their fairy tale run has been brought to an end by Real Madrid's Jose Mourinho. The quarter-final tie between the two attacking sides was far from the spectacle's prediction, as the Spanish giants breezed past the Spurs with an aggregate score of
5-0 over two legs. It would not be wrong to say in favour of Tottenham that the dismissal of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Peter-Crouch-c29741 in the first 15 minutes of the first leg put a severe dent in their hopes of progressing further in the tournament. If this would not have happened, the
tie could have gone either way.
Now that the Spurs have had a taste of the Champions League action, they are desperate for more. Captain Michael Dawson has revealed it would be a huge disappointment for the club if they failed to qualify for next season’s competition.
Dawson said, “The Champions League is where you want to be. For the last couple of seasons we've been in the Europa League but every player wants to play in the Champions League and play against the players that were on show (on Wednesday night). Real Madrid
have got some world-class players and every player wants to test himself against the best.”
He added, "It was a tough test, but we've been there, we've done it and now we're hungry for more."
If Tottenham are to retain their place in the Champions League, they will have to step up their game for the remaining matches of the season. The Spurs are currently three points behind fourth placed Manchester City.
