Tottenham’s Rafael van der Vaart believes Harry Redknapp is similar to Jose Mouriho
Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Rafael van der Vaart has claimed that manager Harry Redknapp has a similar style to Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho. It’s a comparison that has raised many eyebrows, but Rafael van der Vaart explains that both managers have the ability to motivate their players to perform and win matches.
Comparing both coaches, the Dutchman said, “I love how Madrid play. They are having a very good season. Mourinho is a coach who the players want to play for. Redknapp has a similar technique. They are very good, they know how to engage a group. Players want to win for them."
Both coaches will go head to head when Tottenham Hotspur and Real Madrid meet for the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final encounter at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium on 5th April. It promises to be a mouth watering clash, as both teams play an attacking style of football. It’s something Rafael van der Vaart is well aware of.
The Dutchman is intimately familiar with the way Real Madrid play, having been a part of the squad from 2008 to 2010. The midfielder was sold to Tottenham Hotpsur last summer by then manager Jose Mourinho, but van der Vaart claims that he holds no grudge against Mourinho.
He said, “In the off-season I had much contact with Mourinho and he is an exceptional coach, the best in the world. But I wanted to play every game and in Madrid there are many exceptional players. I am 28-years-old and to be at a high level I need games.”
Van der Vaart looks like he has a point to prove in the Premier League. The Dutchman is turning out to be the best signing of the summer, having scored 10 goals in 20 appearances for Spurs, and has created countless more for his team-mates.
