Okay.. this is a touchy subject for most. But I want opinions. I am a caucasian female. 29 years of age. And it is so important that you know, I AM NOT PREJIDUCE!!!! But... I need to know what is up with the black community??? On a daily basis I watch movies, or shows that have black people making raciest jokes to themselves, or making fun of white people.. And then, I can turn the station and find a black politician or preacher giving a speech about racism, and black power. I dont think that I have EVER seen a movie with Queen Latifah where she did not make a reference to "Oh, its because I'm black right?!"

I have to honestly say that, I know some white people in America are prejudice.. But there are some black people in America that hate whites.. I feel like the black community are the ones keeping racism alive. Did anyone ever stop to think or say that blacks were given their civil rights before woman?? I dont see woman saying "poor me, we were so mistreated!" There are some woman's rights groups out there, but it is not talked about on a daily basis! I think this should be outlawed! Whats good for the goose, is good for the gander! It offends me to see a black person on T.V. acting like a white person with their pants shoved up to their chest, big classes, and a dorky persona.. But yet if a white person says "that black guy" its a million dollar law suit!!!!

Bottom line, we ARE as one!!!! I think those black preachers should start preaching about the drugs, welfare community, homelessness, violence, and single moms in their culture.. without blamming it on "whites." And that is NOT to say that we dont have those things involved in our "caucasian community." But we talk about it.. And we dont call it "white power."

I have a feeling that I may get a lot of hate mail for this one.. But please understand that there is no prejudice, or "us and them" in this statement. I believe EVERYONE should be treated the same! This includes rights as well as not insulting each other. If we cant do it.. (and I believe we shouldn't) than they cant do it either!!!

  1. It is very hard to respond to a question that actually is a rant, but I will try it.

Personally, I believe that it is in bad taste for anyone to make a racist joke about any race at all. Having said that, it seems to me like you are a bit oversensitive to the issue. I have seen many, many movies and TV shows, with black actors, with Queen Latifah and without, that have no racist jokes or comments in them. Sure, they are there sometimes, but not in every one. Maybe you have heard it once or twice and your mind expanded it to the majority.

It sounds like you are describing Urkel from "Family Matters" as a black person acting like a white person. Urkel wasn't a white kid, he was a nerdy kid. I have never seen a black person in an entertainment medium adopt the person you described in order to act "white," only to act dorky. That is your interpretation only, and I am sorry you took that as a personal attack.

And if you truly listened to the black preachers and politicians, everything that they say and not just the misguided statements that make it into the media, you would realize that they do talk about welfare, drug abuse, homelessness, etc. You might have even heard an actor named Bill Cosby blame the black community itself for making excuses and not trying hard enough to overcome problems like these.

If you don't hear women complaining, then you have never taken a women's studies course or even read the Gender Issues (or whatever it's called) section on Yahoo! Answers. Incidentally, no one was "given" their civil rights. Both blacks and women, and other groups as well, fought hard for them. A lot of people died very slow, violent deaths so each generation could have better rights than the one before it.

If there are white people in America who are prejudiced, than how is it that Black America is keeping racism alive? Aren't the prejudiced people of ALL races keeping it alive? And not by an occasional bad joke in a movie?

  2. Aren't you stereotyping people by saying that only 'whites' can look dorky, or only 'blacks' can wear slouchy jeans.

For all your 'no prejudices' there seems to be a lot of hate mixed in there.

If we are, as you say, ' as one', why are you seperating people on the basis of what they wear or socio-economical status?
