Tough Canadian line-up gears up for 2011 PGA Tour
David Hearn feels that Canadians tend to draw towards each other.
After a decade, David Hearn and Matt McQuillan will be teaming up with each other again to appear at 2011 PGA Tour representing Canada. Last time the Hearn-McQuillan combo worked together was at Four Nations Cup in Toronto to bring
home a trophy. The golfers appeared in a 6-player team representing the national squad for Canada in a major amateur golf event.
However, Hearn's premonition for 2011 PGA Tour squad had been more than just a hunch. The golfer from Brantford has 2 professional victories as compared to McQuillan’s one win and said that teaming up with the 29-year-old was what
he had anticipated.
“He played very well on the Canadian Tour a few years ago and he's got a lot of ability. It's no surprise really at all,” said the 31-year-old golfer.
Hearn, who turned professional in the year 2001, is stepping into the PGA Tour for the second time in his career. He earned his full-time status through his performance at the Nationwide Tour 2010. The Canadian golfer has been playing the Nationwide Tour
on regular basis since 2005; however the 31-year-old failed to qualify for the card due to his inability to stay on the money list.
On the other hand, McQuillan has spent his previous years as a professional in minor leagues and will be appearing at the 2011 PGA Tour for the first time.
While commenting about his compatriot, the 31-year-old said that all McQuillan needs is a steady supply of confidence and he’s good to go. For the New Year event, all Hearn could advise the 29-year-old golfer was to play the same way he did during the past
years.
“Matt's a good player, but it's a challenge for any rookie on tour,” said Hearn.
Other than Hearn and McQuillan, four more Canadians joined the squad which include the likes of Mike Weir, Stephen Ames, Graham DeLaet and Chris Baryla.
"It's kind of a fraternity. You end up playing practice rounds with a lot of the Canadian guys or doing dinners. Canadians tend to gravitate towards each other," concluded Hearn.
