Tough battle expected at the US Women’s Open 2012
The US Women’s Open 2012, which is slated to be held from July 5-8, at Blackwolf Run, Kohler, is going to pit top-ranked LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) stars against each other, in a battle that will play a crucial role in building up players’
profiles.
According to the officials, this year’s major tournament is grabbing much of the media attention, and it is expected that the number of spectators will reach an all-time high.
The field of the star-studded event is formidable, as almost all the star performers in women’s golf have confirmed their participation for it.
Officials told that the course, Blackwolf Run, has had its prestige among golf fans, especially Americans. The US Women’s Open is coming to the venue after fourteen years — something analysts said is keeping the spectators interested.
Some of the key contenders set to put their skills to the test at the major event include the defending champion So Yeon Ryu, the current world number one Yani Tseng, Carlota Ciganda, American Paula Creamer, Suzann Pettersen, Lexi Thompson, the current world
number two Stacy Lewis, I.K. Kim, Cristie Kerr, Shanshan Feng, Azahara Munoz, Ai Miyazato and Jessica Korda.
Analysts said that Tseng will definitely put her best foot forward in a bid to consolidate her number one position. They said that the Taiwanese star’s number one concern is to keep rivals from snatching her position.
Another hot favourite contender for the coveted title is Stacy Lewis. Lewis is performing amazingly well this season, and has already stuck fear into Tseng by jumping to the second spot in the Women’s World Golf Rankings.
However, the defending champion Ryu appears to be completely overshadowed by stunning performances from players like Ai Miyazato of Japan and Stacy Lewis.
Ryu is having a hard time regaining her lost charisma. Although high in sprits following her major triumph, she is trying to fix her putting lapses in order to improve her game.
Miyazato, who has come out as one of the battle-hardened contenders on the LPGA Tour in recent months, showed an electrifying performance at the Walmart NW Arkansas Championship 2012.
Miyazato belongs to Japan, and is fully prepared to take on rivals at Kohler this week.
