Tough comeback outing awaits Uncle Mo in the Grade 1 King’s Bishop Stakes at Saratoga
In the field of 8 horses, Uncle Mo will find tough competition when he returns to the races after a 4 month layoff due to a liver disease, in the Grade 1 $250,000 King’s Bishop Stakes on 27 August, 2011 at Saratoga.
The 3-year-old 2010 champion Uncle Mo ran his last race in the Grade 1 Wood Memorial Stakes at Aqueduct under jockey John Velazquez.
The 3-year-old Uncle Mo rolled in third after a tough race against Toby’s Corner and Arthur’s Tale with the winning time of 1 minute and 49.93 seconds over a distance of 1 1/8 miles. His only loss in his five career starts.
The Todd Pletcher trained will go back in the fray after a long layoff sidelined due to illness, but now he is facing a new predicament in the shape of a comeback race which is never easy for any horse, and it will be necessary for the light on talent colt
to be at his best.
Owned by Mike Repole, Uncle Mo is sent as the 9 to 5 favourite to win the race, and the seven furlong event has reeled in some tough 3-year-old rivals to contend, with the likes of Runflatout, Dominus and Justin Phillip.
These would be the top sprinters out of the eight that Uncle Mo would have to keep an eye on, while making his come back on Saratoga’s Travers Day. Only a year before Uncle Mo made his auspicious winning debut on Travers Day.
It is time for the champion colt to steal the lime light once again to prove to his fans and critics, that the disease hasn’t diminished his will and hunger to win races, and that he is back even stronger than before.
The 3-year-old bay colt was sent to Winstar Farms, where he stayed for 2 months and recovered. From Kentucky he arrived to his trainer Todd Pletcher at his Saratoga stable back on 11 July and has breezed six times since then.
The King’s Bishop has certainly become a tough spot for the 3-year-old entrants, with Uncle Mo back in the mix, there is plenty of competition this year in the King’s Bishop.
