Tough contention at the top in the second round of South African Women’s Open
South African Women’s Open was one of the most anticipated events on LET’s calendar and the results for the second round were not what everyone was expecting.
Four players shared the top position with an identical cumulative score of 144. This was a unique situation, which caused great excitement among fans. Everyone was excited for their own reasons.
The most excited people were, ofcourse, the South African fans who were very happy to see a South African player in the first place. The first round had left many of them with a bad taste in their mouth.
The South African stars Lee-Anne Pace and defending champion Tandi Cuningham were down at the 21st position. The South African players most visible in the top-10 were three relatively unknown players, who have just started their careers.
The second round saw four players in the top slot. Danielle Montgomery, from England, Joanna Klatten, from France, Ashleigh Simon, from South Africa and Caroline Masson from Germany were in the lead.
The results were hardly surprising for the observers as they had seen the first round. Caroline Masson was the clear leader, who had been playing great golf from the very start.
Joanna Klatten was in the second position at the end of the first round. She was expected to move up because of her great game.
Ashleigh Simon finished the first round in the sixth position. Fans and experts had high hopes that Simon will move up, as her game was steadily improving as the day progressed. She did not disappoint the fans and shot her way into the first place.
Danielle Montgomery was a real surprise for many experts. The first round saw her in the 12th position with a score of 74. She appeared to be an average performer, whose great game led her straight into the first place.
The last round held its own share of surprises. The least shocking was Caroline Masson’s win.
Another surprise was the second position of Lee-Anne Pace, who suddenly managed to recover her form and finish in the second position. All in all, it was a great game that left fans thoroughly entertained.
