Tough days lay ahead of Davis Love III
The final make up of the USA Ryder Cup will be announced on Tuesday when Davis Love III, Captain Team USA, will announce his four wild card picks at a press conference.
The Ryder Cup takes place at Chicago, Illinois, in the end of September. To be honest, it is an extremely tough decision to make as there are numerous top quality golfers waiting in line.
Another factor that will add pressure on Love’s shoulders is that if these wild card picks do not perform at the centre stage, then he will come under tremendous criticism, as USA looks to reclaim the Ryder Cup title.
Love would be looking to break the winning streak of the Europeans, who have won four of the last five Ryder Cups.
This year’s USA team is pretty balanced as it boasts huge experience with regards to Phil Mickelson and Tiger Woods. However, there are three rookies as well in the automatic qualification list.
Out of the four wild card picks, Steve Stricker and Jim Furyk seem to be the two most straight forward choices. These two have previous experiences of Ryder Cup and have also partnered Tiger Woods, so getting along will not be an issue.
Hunter Mahan and Bo Van Pelt have been in good form this year. Bo, however, has seen a slight dip in form. Rickie Fowler, who made his Ryder Cup debut at Celtic Manor two years ago, is also a very good option.
If it comes to form then Nick Watney, Dustin Johnson and Brandt Snedeker might be leading the race, as they have hit form lately.
Snedeker finished second at The Barclays and his impressive performance at the British Open might be at the back of Love’s mind.
Nick Watney although could not perform well at the Deutsche Bank Open but his victory at The Barclays would have surely forced Davis Love III to scratch his head.
Dustin Johnson might have had some back issue at the start of the season but two top-four finishes in the last two events mean that Dustin is in fine form and raring to go.
It is really tough for Love to decide from this lot as everybody boasts quality.
