Tough going once again for Lee Westwood – PGA Tour Championship
It seems that the skies have once again turned their back on Lee Westwood. The Englishman is a very unlucky man. He is one of the very few who have won tournaments all over the globe but he is yet to wear the green jacket.
Lee Westwood is known as one of the best players never to have won a major. After missing the cut at the PGA Championship, it seemed as if the season was all over for the world number four.
However, cometh the FedEx Cup playoffs, it looked as if he was back in his grove. Three decent finishes in the playoffs meant that Lee had an outside chance of securing his first FedEx Cup title, along with the $10 million purse.
On Thursday, Westwood scored six birdies but along with that, he also scored eight bogeys. The Englishman scored two-over, 72 in the first round, followed by a three-over in the second.
“Stock-market golf,” said Westwood, smiling after the 2-over 72. “You can use that, can’t you?”
Eight bogeys and six birdies in a round mean that, somewhere down the line, there is a minute problem with Westwood’s game.
This is very unlikely of him, as he is well known for his consistency. Known for big booming drives, the course at East Lake should have been easy to handle, as it aids the players who are long hitters of the golf ball.
“It was just one of those days,” Westwood said. “This being my first time around here, I wasn’t sure of some putts. I wasn’t sure of the feel on some putts”.
Westwood, however, was very positive after the first round. He stated, “I missed eight chances for par”.
However, his score card from the first round looked a little respectable as compared to the second, but his overall standing remained as it was.
On Friday, Lee shot four bogeys and a birdie. The score is not pretty at all but at least he was being consistent with pars.
These are not good signs for the European Ryder Cup team, as Lee is one of the most influential players in the team. He is role model for the youngsters and he should be playing like one as well.
