why do they call the ''white house'' the white house rather than the presidental house

  1. Because it is painted white.


  2. Originally called the Executive Mansion, but after the British burned it during the War of 1812 it was painted over with white paint and the name stuck.  It should be called the Executive Mansion.

  5. Because calling it the Black and Blue House would be to close tot he facts after the last couple decades of inferior Presidents we have had in there. No one worth the title of President since Ronnie Reagan.

  6. For a short time it was the black house ,after the British burnt it. Then they rebuilt and called it the White House.
