Tough season ahead awaits Cleveland Browns QB Colt McCoy on return from head injury-NFL News
Cleveland Browns’ quarterback (QB), Colt McCoy, might not find as welcoming position in the team, when he joins the squad following his recovery from concussion later this year, as he used to get earlier.
After receiving the injury into the later part of the 2011 National Football League (NFL) regular season, he has been out of the scene for almost three months now and there is no confirmation if he would be able to recover well before start of the preseason
this year.
Amid the uncertainty around his comeback chances, the team has started weighing some other options such as bringing in another quarterback through the draft recruitment.
Although the team management has not elaborated the plans of the new hiring, there is likelihood that they might assign him the starting role. The possibility will most likely become a reality if the prospective fresh quarterback is Robert Lee Griffin III.
Griffin III has topped this year’s list of the prospective draft picks along with Andrew Luck and Browns will be lucky if they get a hand on him.
Yet, the coach, Pat Shurmur, has backed Colt McCoy’s return next season provided he is fit and ready to join the squad. Again, the coach refrained from commenting on the new hiring prospects and arrangement of the offensive positions.
McCoy finished the past season with the record of 4-9, which is not enough to convince the side to trust him for the number one position another time.
It will be difficult for the QB to fit himself in a different situation upon his return. The lingering issue of the head injury has already made headlines around the possibility of affecting his career.
Neither the player nor the team management has spoken of the latest recovery status, which leaves a question mark on the chances of his return.
Unlucky for the player, his injury was mishandled by the team that let him playing without inspecting him for the concussion.
There were no immediate reports whether the player had aggravated the injury by continuing playing, but it remains likelihood.
Further, none of the Browns officials have thrown a light on the present status of the player except for that they are hopeful of his recovery well before start of the next regular season.
All the developments create further difficulties for the player, and he might find it hard to adapt to the changes that the team is aiming to introduce after singing the new quarterback.
The next season would be Colt McCoy’s third straight at Browns and the player might well be prepared to ponder on other chances, including the possibility of moving anywhere else in the league, especially if he is unable to improve his form and performance.
The coach has asked the player to groom himself and become a better player next season. Only time will tell if he is able to live up to the expectations or not.
